Congratulations to Prof. Doron Aurbach for winning the ECS John B. Goodenough Prize
The Electrochemical Society (ECS) can be considered as the most important organization of scientists, industries, academic institutions, national laboratories and governmental agencies in the world, dealing with electrochemical science, including most important aspects of energy harvesting, storage & conversion. Its headquarters are located in the US.
The most prestigious prize that the ECS delivers to selected top scientists in the fields of electrochemistry and energy science, is called the John B. Goodenough Award, commemorating the famous Nobel Laureate (chemistry, 2019), Professor John Goodenough from the university of Austin Texas.
The criteria include leadership in energy research, proven achievements related to energy storage and conversion, significant life's work contributions to the world energy research community, and excellence in research.
This Award was announced 4 years ago, and it is delivered every second year.
Prof. Doron Aurbach from the chemistry department in Bar Ilan University is the Second scientist who was chosen to get it.
Prof. Aurbach will receive the prestigious prize in a special ceremony, after delivering an invited plenary lecture in the coming semiannual meeting of the Electrochemical Society, May 2025, in Montreal Canada.

Dr. Abed Saady Saady has a strong multidisciplinary track record of publication (18 published papers, 4 in preparation and 1 patent), including synthetic chemistry, chemical biology, supramolecular chemistry, and cell biology, demonstrating my scientific flexibility and ability to learn and contribute to new areas.
He has gained expertise in synthetic organic chemistry, mechanically interlocked molecules, supramolecular chemistry, nucleic acid chemistry, chemical biology, sensor design, fluorescent dyes, analytical techniques and scientific software.

Greetings to Ayelet Rothstein, Sivan Bacher, Eyal Malka and Svetlana Lieberman, all doctoral students in the chemistry department, who won the Adama scholarship
The Adama company, whose worldwide activities support agriculture and human food production processes, develops, manufactures and markets plant protection products,
awards scholarships for academic excellence and exceptional research dealing with the synthesis and use of organic compounds, formulation of polymers and hybrid materials and analytical studies of small molecules, polymers and hybrid materials .
The scholarships were awarded in a festive ceremony at the Adama factory, where the winners presented their research and were given a fascinating tour of the factory’s laboratories.

Dr. Anat Itzhak won the exclusive Marie-Curie Scholarship for postdoctoral training of researchers!
Dr. Itzhak is currently studying new materials for solar cells. During the post-doctorate in the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) , she will investigate oxygen-free syntheses of inorganic materials for solar cells in aim to find environmentally friendly materials that can generate electricity from solar energy.

Congratulations to Mrs. Shani Zev for winning the ICS Prize for an Excellent Graduate Student for 2023
Shani applies advanced computational chemistry methods and data processing techniques to explain the main catalytic effect of these enzymes. Her computational work agrees with the experimental results and sheds light on the mechanism of terpenes in enzymes and nano-capsules.

Congratulations to Dr. Ariel Friedman for winning the ICS Prize for an Excellent Graduate Student for 2022
Dr. Friedman’s research focuses on molecular catalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction, emphasizing their electropolymerization for potential application in fuel cells. Additionally, his work encompassed the study of other electrochemical reactions, including hydrogen evolution and CO2 reduction, alongside the development of electrochemical techniques to quantitatively assess catalytic sites in precious group metal-free catalysts.

Summer Student OPENING
For research on sustainable materials for solar cells and renewable energy, in the Cahen/Zaban labs in the BINA Nanocentre. Preferred background: chemistry, physics, or engineering; minimal time: 10 weeks (net).
The labs are located in the Nano building.
Prior skills required: some lab experience; English at level of conversation. Guidance (in English) will be provided in first weeks.

Shani Zev (Levi) was awarded the scholarship in the name of Yitzchak Navon
The Department of Chemistry congratulates Shani Zev, a Ph.d. student in Prof. Dan Major's research laboratory, upon being awarded the scholarship in the name of Yitzchak Navon. The scholarship funds excelling female students in higher studies programs.

Prof. Doron Aurbach from the Department of Chemistry and the Institute of Nanotechnology was awarded a gold medal from the ICS for his contribution to science
Prof. Doron Aurbach from the Department of Chemistry and the Institute of Nanotechnology was awarded a gold medal for his contribution and achievements in science from the Israel Chemical Society (ICS).
Prof. Aurbach won for the breakthrough he made in his research in the fields of non-aqueous electrochemistry, for the development of new analytical tools, the development of new rechargeable batteries and for his research into electrochemical processes for water treatment.
Prof. Doron Aurbach has published more than 680 articles and according to Google Scholar has accumulated over 70,000 citations. He has mentored more than 60 doctoral students and in 2018 received the Prime Minister's Award for Innovation in the Field of Samson Transportation.
The medal ceremony will be held in February 2021.

Prof. Malachi Noked from the Department of Chemistry among the recipients of the Krill Prize for 2019
The Wolf Foundation published this week the list of the ten winners of the prestigious Krill Prize for 2019.
The prize, for a total of $ 10,000 per researcher, is awarded annually in the fields of exact sciences, life sciences, medicine, agriculture and engineering. The winners were selected by the Foundation's Scholarship Committee from a list of dozens of outstanding candidates submitted by the universities.
Among the outstanding researchers are also Dr. Baruch Barzel from the Department of Mathematics and Prof. Malachi Noked from the Department of Chemistry at Bar-Ilan University.

Prof. Doron Aurbach from the Department of Chemistry and the Institute of Nanotechnology won the Prime Minister's Award worth $ 1 million for innovation in the field of oil substitutes for transportation
Prof. Doron Aurbach from the Department of Chemistry and the Institute of Nanotechnology won the Prime Minister's Award named after Samson for innovation in the field of oil substitutes for transportation. This is the first time the award has been presented to an Israeli researcher.

Honorary Doctorate from the University of Buenos Aires to Prof. Doron Aurbach
The University of Buenos Aires has awarded an honorary doctorate to Prof. Doron Aurbach of the Department of Chemistry and the Institute of Nanotechnology at Bar-Ilan University.
The award is given to him for promoting the field of electrochemistry, as seen in the letter of rationale: "Development of electrochemical power sources as and excellent platform for promoting basic materials and surface science".

Dr. Adi Salomon for the Department of Chemistry among the recipients of the Krill prize for 2018
Dr. Adi Salomon from the Department of Chemistry won the Krill Award for Excellence in Scientific Research from the Wolf Foundation, for 2018. The Rector of the University, Prof. Miriam Faust, congratulated Dr. Salomon and wished her success in continuing her excellence in her research work.
